Jeannie is a Wilderness based yoga instructor who I have had the pleasure of working closely with when she was permanently based in Cape Town . Having vast experience from her many years of practice , authentic education from her Guru`s during her studies in India and her natural empathy for her clients , Jeannie has become an integral part of many of my patients journey back to health . I cannot recommend her highly enough in the care and attention to detail of the needs of my patients that I have referred to her , she is a self described “ yoga nerd” , and leaves no stone unturned in pursuit of the optimum rehabilitation programs for her patients . Although gaining flexibility , stability ,proprioception and strength for the neuromusculoskeletal needs of my typical chiropractic referrals , she has had a profound effect on the mental and emotional needs of my patients , achieved through the meditative breathwork utilized during the physical rehabilitative and restorative yoga practice she instructs .

Jeannie is highly skilled in teaching online and her verbal cues ,demonstration and instruction are easy to follow . In her studio, she has adapted to Covid 19 protocols , observing all precautions in her predominantly one on one sessions with clients. She employs all yoga techniques in the best interest of her clients individual injury and rehabilitative needs . I am also able to recommend her yoga practice in the instruction of children , especially those who have low motor tone , structural asymmetries and anxiety .

I have known Jeannie Holmes for the past 3 years. I have personally attended her yoga classes on a twice weekly basis. As a psychologist it is important to me that the yoga teaching I attend is mature and responsible on a physical, intellectual as well as spiritual level. I have been very impressed with the excellent way in which Jeannie contains and facilitates all these needs. She teaches responsibly but at the same time in a creative way, which always feels playful, inspiring and respectful. She regularly attends new training courses locally as well as abroad and her pupils have the benefit of her enthusiasm and diligence as a yoga teacher.

Injuries are always a possibility in yoga teaching, but due to her meticulous attention to each individual in her class this was never a problem.

I have referred some of my own patients to Jeannie, where recurrent physical pain was experienced. In those cases they benefitted greatly and their physical symptoms disappeared after a course of yoga and meditation with Jeannie.

There is increasing evidence that meditation and yoga is an effective treatment, together with psychotherapy to treat chronic neural pain as well as psychological distress. Jeannie proved this to me with these patients.

I can only recommend Jeannie very highly as a personality who brings joy, laughter, insight, respect and fine attention to her clients.

I was suffering from acute lower back pain since the first quarter of 2017; it came on suddenly and was debilitating. Prior to this I was a fit, healthy and active individual with great enthusiasm for life but the issues with my back had left me broken - unable to exercise or sleep well and as a result my health and the quality of my life were rapidly deteriorating.

Dr Garth Roberts began treating me in September of 2020 and recommended that I start remedial yoga with Jeannie as part of my rehabilitation.

Jeannie is one of those rare people that you meet who is authentic and genuinely interested in healing her students. Her passion and extreme enthusiasm for yoga is only superseded by her empathy, warmth and support. Jeannie is meticulous in her approach, which ensures that the practice is done safely and tailors each session to the individual’s needs.

Through my practice with Jeannie, I realised how much additional tension I was accumulating in my body in response to the pain that I was experiencing. Jeannie combines both meditation and the physical practice to heal the body on all levels.

I have been consistently attending class twice a week for six months and I have been pain free for the last three months. My health, strength and vitality have been regained along with a great sense of well-being.

Knowing Jeannie has changed the course of my life not only through practice but also through her unwavering conviction that I would be healed, even when I had given up hope.

Pranayama is the practice of breath-control in yoga; This breathing technique combined with sleep yoga/Yoga Nidra, is an incredible class hosted by Jeannie Holmes. I have experienced this class on numerous occasions all over the world on my travels, but never have I experienced the incredible results I had with a yogi like Jeannie. There is evidence that Yoga Nidra helps in releasing stress, and helps with your sleep, and also that a 30-minute session is equivalent to 2 hours of sleep. I can definitely affirm that this one on one session is a worthwhile addition to your fitness regime and lifestyle. Jeannie is an incredible instructor, and you will not be sorry to attend a session with her.

I am privileged to attend twice weekly remedial yoga group lessons with Jeannie Holmes of the Healing Resolve.

We started off with a group of 5 and are now sometimes 7 or 8 in the group, but this has never stopped Jeannie from giving each and every individual one hundred percent of her attention.

Jeannie started right at the start – getting to know everyone and making sure always that the whole group is ready before she moves on to stronger poses - always reminding the group to communicate their problems, pains or fears.

She is extremely vigilant of every facet of everyone’s body language - correcting constantly, but always in a constructive, kind and gentle manner. She notices habits and cheers on even slight improvements, all the time being in total and strict control of the group - insisting on absolute focus and allowing no transgressions.

I have rarely experienced a teacher in any field that is both so verbally and physically gifted and who communicates outcomes so brilliantly. Jeannie seems never to tire of repeating instructions and guidance - until she sees that our bodies reflect her intentions, to such an extent that it almost becomes everyone’s individual mantra. She adjusts her teaching continuously and specifically to any problem areas arising, which attests to a superior field of experience.

Jeannie’s teaching is integrative of mind, body and soul – and she gifts each individual in every class with the necessary diagnostic links between the three. I have become much stronger and more confident over the past months and am extremely grateful to my physiotherapist who referred me to Jeannie – with the advice that she herself improved greatly under Jeannie’s expert and loving hand.

Jeannie totally ‘practices what she preaches’: she keeps experimenting fervently on herself, to continuously try and find new solutions to pain or instability, remaining always highly professional and true to her chosen discipline. She is an inspiration to all around her - passionately living and breathing out the name of her practice - ‘The Healing Resolve’.

I have been doing rehabilitation yoga with Jeannie for the past few months.

I have had acute lower and upper back pain for years and found the yoga positions greatly improved my flexibility and pain threshold. Her classes are both subtle and rigorous. Jeannie has a broad knowledge and understanding of various aspects of the yoga profession and are able to apply her expansive understanding to very specific problems. I found her approach very detailed and analytical.

I have been able to focus much better and am much less stressed working in a high-pressure environment since starting training with Jeannie.

Jeannie uses her wisdom of Yoga and lead others with grace into a powerful weave of integration allowing mind, body and spirit to come into true alignment.

I have been attending Jeannie’s Healing meditation classes for the past six months.

This had made an incredible difference to my life, transporting me into another universe.

One where time and space no longer matter.

It has been a lifeline in terms of coping with the pain of separation from loved ones during the Covid Pandemic.

With authenticity and sincerity, she has taught us that every problem, when seen from a deeply spiritual perspective, loses significance, and can be overcome.

Her knowledge of Body, Mind and Spirit is impressive.

She is deeply interested in and concerned for each and every one of her clients. Always making sure that everybody’s needs are met before, during and after class.

Her explanations before each meditation session always instruct and prepare us for the beautiful journey – from which we are sometimes loath to return!

She is composed and gracious, and an inspiration to her clients.

We need her to help us cope with the increasing physical demands as we age, as well as the spiritual demands of these trying times we find ourselves in right now.

I hope to learn a lot more from this lovely instructor. She is a true asset to our community, and will hopefully be here for us for many years to come.

At the age of 34 years old, I was diagnosed with an aggressive, malignant and “incurable” brain tumour.

My standard of care involved 6 weeks of radiotherapy, followed by 6 months of chemotherapy.

If I told you that I am fighting fit, stronger and happier than I have ever been, would you believe me? Probably not.

This is due in large part to the work that I did with Jeannie Holmes of Awake Studio pre and post-surgery and continued to do throughout my treatment, and do so to this day.

I met Jeannie shortly after I was diagnosed and fortunately before my surgery. Jeannie, like an angel, swooped in and dedicated much of her time in the days before my surgery to teaching me meditation and breathing techniques to calm me down as I was scared beyond belief, and that was also when I truly started to get my faith back in God.

The doctors indicated that I would be in hospital for 2 weeks after the surgery, following which I would need to go to rehab for 4-6 weeks due to the effect that the surgery may have on my motor skills.

On Tuesday 3rd September 2019, I had my surgery. It took 6.5 hours and I woke to the best news I had heard in weeks. The neurosurgeon indicated that they had managed to do a full resection “from what he could see”. When he said this, I smiled - with both sides of my face.   I decided to wait 30 minutes before I saw anyone after my surgery so I could meditate and pray, to thank God for getting me through the surgery and for making it a successful one.

My wife rushed to the ICU and promptly started her own physical exam, forcing me to wiggle my toes. I wiggled all 10 toes on both of my feet, and I wiggled all 10 fingers on both of my hands.

I walked out of hospital 4 days later.

Jeannie visited me in hospital and at home, and again taught me coping techniques that assisted in my healing process.

10 days post-surgery, I did my first @sweat1000 class and continued with these classes every morning before I went for radiation treatment. During this time, I also kept working with Jeannie from Awake Yoga who continued to empower me to fight the battle with my body with the power of my mind, the power of positivity and regular yoga and yoga nidra sessions which are my favourite.

If it were not for these powerful mind techniques keeping my mind strong, and the daily sweat1000 sessions keeping my body strong, I may not have made it through this battle. I progressed well through radiation with the incredible support of my wife who quit her job to help me through the gruelling treatment.

Not everyone recognizes that having a brain tumour is similar to having an acquired brain injury. The damage caused by the tumour itself and by the treatments, surgery, chemo or radiotherapy, for some all three, can add up to a very serious brain injury. There are also additional challenges with brain cancer when compared to other cancers due to the impact that this has on the patients neurocognitive abilities.

Throughout radiation and chemo, I maintained my daily meditation sessions with Jeannie, I attended sweat1000 everyday. I did yoga daily to help strengthen my body, mind and soul. It was a great challenge to do this as I battled with nausea, fatigue, body cramps and depression. But movement is medicine and to keep my head on the fight, I needed to keep moving.

And I prayed.

I still to this day attend Jeannie’s Yoga Nidra sessions via zoom as well  Yoga Therapy classes and continue to see Jeannie on a one on one basis as we expand these techniques as required throughout my treatment.

Jeannie is a pivotal part of my healing and plays a massive role in my support team. My mind is stronger than ever before and because of Jeannie and what she has taught me as a healer, I have a stronger chance of kicking what has been called an “incurable disease”. I believe that I will be the outlier.

I have made, I believe extraordinary progress. I know that this journey is far from over but what has become clear to me is  that to fully heal yourself , you need your reinforcements, you need love, and you need the power of positivity and prayer.

Jeannie has also been a massive support, and healing light for me, my family, and my wife.  She taught me the power of positivity and without prayer and positivity, I would not be alive today. I owe Jeannie my life and will be forever grateful to her for saving mine.  She has also become a good friend.”
